We'll go on this 2013 with our Band of the Month of February. They are We The Kings, the famous redhead-fronted. Let's get to know a bit more about them :
We The Kings are a punk pop/powerpop band formed back in 2000 in Bradenton (Florida) and composed at present by Travis Clark (Vocals and guitar), Hunter Thomsen (Guitar and vocals), Coley O'Toole (Guitar, piano and vocals), Charles Trippy (Bass) and Danny Duncan (Drums).
The band started their career in the year 2000 with a quite different line-up and a music style far from that which provided them global acclaim. At that time, Travis and his brother together with Hunter and Andrew Thomsen, were called Broken Image. Under this name they released their first EPs, "IVY" and "Friendship Is A Touchy Subject". They later became De Soto, releasing "Between The Ink And Pen". It was then when they went on tour for the first time with the band Don't Die Cindy. It was not until 2005 when Travis Clark, Hunter Thomsen, Andrew Thomsen and Danny Duncan became We The Kings, being the name which made them famous taken after their school, King Middle School.
Success would not take long to come. After the great acceptance that their music received in specialized websites and in the social networks, they were signed by S-Curve Records, a branch of EMI. With this label they released their debut album "We The Kings" on the 2nd October 2007. This first released got very positive critics and reviews and they would soon become recognized in the punk pop scene because of powerful and catchy hymns as "Skyway Avenue", "Check Yes Juliet" or "Secret Valentine", together with their funny music videos and the personal charm of Travis. That very year they opened for bands such as Boys Like Girls, All Time Low or Cobra Starship.
After months of intensive touring and promoting and with an steadily increasing fanbase, We The Kings get to play in Warped Tour 2008. 16th December 2008 they released their "Secret Valentine EP" which contained two versions of their highly acclaimed hit and four new songs, confirming them as one of the bands to follow in the near future.
In 2009 We The Kings repeat the experience of playing in the Warped Tour and also goes for the first time to the Bamboozle, sharing stages that year with bands such as The Cab, Hey Monday or Forever The Sickest Kids.
As most experts in the music field tend to state it's even more difficult to stay on top than to get to it. 8th December 2009, We The Kings confirm they remain on success by releasing their sophomore album, "Smile Kid". Once again, lots of catchy songs and tunes which would surely pleasure all the fans from the most famous redhead frontman in the scene and with the collab of Demi Lovato in their hit "We'll Be A Dream".
After two long years of touring and shows which took them to stages all over the world, including the Soundwave festival in Australia, one of the most important hard rock/punk pop stops in the circuit, 5th July 2011 they release their third studio album, being titled "Sunshine State Of Mind", a more mature work, with the spirit of We The Kings but with a much evolved sound which can clearly be recognized in their singles "Say You Like Me" or "Friday Is Forever". So as to present it to their audience they embark on the "Friday Is Forever Tour" together with The Summer Set, The Downtown Fiction, Hot Chelle Rae and Action Item.
In September 2011 Drew Thomsen parts ways with the band, being replaced by the bassist and famous blogger Charles Trippy.
In the last months of 2011 Travis launches his own clothing brand, "King Travis Clothing".
3rd July 2012 they released their "Party, Fun, Love & Radio EP", which contains five tracks, four of them acoustic sessions from songs included in their third album and a new song, the one which gives name to the EP. As part of the promotion of the release the started an intense touring which took them all over the world, playing once more the Warped Tour, returning to Australia and visiting most of European important capitals and cities while opening for Simple Plan.
In 2013 We The Kings return with loads of updates. 21st January they release their "Friday Is Forever EP", which gathers some of the hits of the band. That same month they embark on a double tour, first throughout the UK and then visiting the rest of Europe.
Also in 2013, they will take part in the original soundtrack for the sequel of "The Hunger Games", titled "Catching Fire", with their new song "The Art Of War".
