Tokio Hotel in Spain (Report)

Tokio Hotel, the famous German band visited our country on Monday and Tuesday, in two shows in Madrid and Bacerlona. Press coverage was massive and, for days, it has been broadcast on the most important TV news programs of the country how many fans waited in days since more than two weeks ago. With this ambient, the effervescence was expected the hours before the show. The police along with the reporters who stole the last declarations and the impatient shouts everywhere. The gates to the stadium seemed never to open.

But they did, and an avalanche of teenagers, parents, boys and girls flooded the arena at seven thirty pm. It will be a hour and a half later when the lights turned off and in the stage started to showed, while the Intro song of this Humanoid City Tour began to sound. A big metallic ball, in wich Bill Kaulitz rose with the bizarre look chosen for this tour. A platform above the stage hosted drummer Gustav Schäefer. At both sides, two stairs for bassist Georg Listing and guitarist Tom Kaulitz to move along. It began then a daring bet of aesthetics and sound that some voices point as a lure to their last album, Humanoid.

And this is it. Tour comes as a desperate try to save an album with sales (in three editions) have not got the acceptation that their others record have. So, the tracklist is based on Humanoid's songs, sliding far of their roots, except for Moonson, Break Away and Ready, Set, Go!. However, the audition was good, and really involved in the show. When Monsoon's chorus broke into the song Screamin', the whole arena shook. It is also remarkable the moment when Bill appeared in stage with a huge motorcycle or when they played a piano in flames in the song Zoom Into Me.

We can say they have won the bet. It is not easy to say if the audience were happy for the music or the spectacle, or maybe for the inevitable combination of both. Anyway, the absence of the roots that made them stand where they are now was notable. Songs such as An deiner Seite (Ich bin da) or Schrei were missed really bad by fans that supported the band since the very beginning.

To the unconditional fans, it was a perfect show. To the ones who went for the spectacle, it was entertained. To the ones who went for the music, it was disappointing.
